Based on my experience as an English professor for 23 years, a successful academic and trade author, and a four-time grant recipient from the National Endowment for the Humanities, I have been offering coaching and developmental editing services since 2020. I coach all kinds of nonfiction writers at all stages of their projects–getting started, overcoming blocks, grant proposals, book proposals, sample chapters, agent queries, organizing research, and drafting.

My clients have received grants, signed with agents, and received contracts with Cambridge University Press , Hachette, and independent presses. I have also worked with writers under contract with Oxford University Press and FSG.

I am a coach for the Biographers International Society, so I naturally coach biographers of all kinds. I also work with academics interested in public scholarship and trade publishing. I have also coached journalists, professional writers, historians, and independent scholars.

I also am available to coach writers working on funding proposals. I have received four NEH grants (summer stipend, fellowship, and two public scholars awards) as well as a research grants from the American Philosophical Society and the Louisiana Artists and Scholars Program.

If you are interested in working with me, feel free to drop me a line at anneboydrioux@gmail.com, and we can discuss your needs and my availability. I currently charge $150/hr.

What Writers Are Saying

” I know I’ll be putting forward a much stronger NEH application because of your insight, experience, smart questions, and careful critique. You’ve given me lots to think about in how I want to frame this project, and that’s been tremendously helpful, not only for this grant, but for thinking through the book itself.”

Elizabeth DeWolfe, Ph.D.

History Professor, U of New England

“Your comments are so helpful, so encouraging. You can’t imagine how thankful I am for your assistance. All I can say is that you should give a master class on query letters and proposals. Or maybe you already have. It’s an understatement to say that your coaching has been invaluable.”

Charlotte Jacobs, M.D.

Professor at Stanford; Jonas Salk: A Life (Oxford UP); 90 Seconds to Midnight: One Woman’s Nuclear Odyssey sold to Potomac Books

“I re-worked the book proposal based on your suggestions, and an agent has agreed to take me on as a client. Frankly, there’s no way I could have gotten it into the shape it’s in without your help. I learned so much from your notes. Writing the proposal was maybe the hardest writing project I’ve ever done. So: thank you, thank you, thank you. You’re a great teacher, editor, and writer.”

Eric Rosenblum

Writer, podcast host, signed contract for a literary biography with Hachette

“Anne brought fresh eyes to a project I’ve been working on for twenty years and helped me develop a new and exciting direction. She is thoughtful, insightful, and as easy to work with as a long-time critique-group friend.”

Cecile Mazzucco-Than, Ph.D.

Independent scholar writing book about the first American kindergarten teachers
