The BBC has 10 books it would like you to consider reading this month. I couldn’t be more thrilled that one of them is mine: http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20160129-ten-books-to-read-in-february. It was a happy night last night when I opened my Facebook and Twitter accounts to see a flurry of posts and tweets spreading the news, courtesy of the article’s author, Jane Ciabattari.

Constance Fenimore Woolson: Portrait of a Lady Novelist will be published February 29, so you may not get to it until March. But I hear that pre-orders can go out earlier, so it’s still possible to fit it in before Leap Day.

There are some other really interesting books on the BBC’s list. Jhumpa Lahiri has a new book out, and when is that not a good thing? The book is about her love affair with the Italian language, which she moved to Italy to learn.

And Sharon Guskin’s novel Forgetting Time sounds fabulous: “Guskin’s provocative and suspenseful first novel explores the cross-cultural attitudes toward “the survival of consciousness after death.” There is an excerpt up at LitHub: http://lithub.com/the-forgetting-time/ 

Other intriguing reads include Gail Lumet Buckley’s The Black Calhouns and Idra Novey’s Brazilian-set mystery about authors and translators, Ways to Disappear.

Another book not on the list that I’m really looking forward to reading this month is the just-released debut novel In Another Life by Julie Christine Johnson.

It’s the story of a present-day woman who is writing her history dissertation. She moves to France and comes face-to-face with the past. It sounds absolutely stunning. Library Journal said, “A perfect match for readers who enjoy Kate Mosse’s ‘Languedoc Trilogy’ and fans of female-driven romantic historical works such as Diana Gabaldon’s ‘Outlander’ series.” Sold!
