I was just reading a letter in which Woolson writes about walking every afternoon through the streets of Florence or up the hillsides surrounding the city. And as she walked, she heard the church bells ringing out Ave Maria. So I did a google search and found this video. She loved the way the church bells in Italy swung out from side to side just like on the Christmas cards she remembered as a child. (Unfortunately, this video doesn’t show that, but others on youtube do.) I was delighted to find this little video that captures a slice of her experience in Italy 130 years ago.
Sweet! I can imagine a Woolsonian starting every writing day with this video. Miki
Listening to it feels like time travel. Thank you for sharing.
