Sneak Peek

I’m offering a free sneak peek of Constance Fenimore Woolson’s Miss Grief and Other Stories, to be published by W. W. Norton on February 29, to subscribers of my newsletter. You can read my Introduction and the short story “Solomon” before the book hits bookshelves by subscribing to “The Woolson and Alcott Chronicles” here.

Woolson (1840-1894) was the most critically acclaimed American woman writer of her era. This collection–which spans her career and contains stories set in the Great Lakes region, the U.S. South, Italy, and London–shows why. Booklist wrote, in a starred review: “This is an exciting volume, with a thoughtful and admiring foreword by Colm Tóibín, who describes Woolson as ‘an adventurous and brave explorer in the territory of human disappointment.’ . . . The humble, hard-working, long-suffering women in Woolson’s stories are transcendent in their stoicism and capability. Woolson belongs in every American literature collection.”

Please share widely, if you will. This is the only sneak peak before publication day, and I’d love to get readers excited about bringing Woolson back into print and celebrating the publication of my Woolson biography.
